Steve Folse was born on May 12, 1954, in Raceland, Louisiana, to Gatewood
"Pott" and Earline Sevin Folse, somewhere in the middle of two sisters, Debra and Wendy and 3 brothers, Ricky,
Ronnie and Randy. Steve attended Raceland Lower, Raceland Upper, Holy Savior Catholic and Central Lafourche
High Schools.
At the age of 14, Steve began beating the sticks on his father's old drum set, in
his bedroom. Soon after, the band "Debbie and the Lads" (which consisted of his father, brothers Ricky and Ronnie
and sister Debbie), needed a drummer for a gig at the Signerella Club in St. Martinville and Steve filled in. He was still
14 when he got his own set of drums from "Potts Music House". At that time, he and some of his school buddies
formed a band called, "The Cellar Door". The band would start out playing for free. Their first paying job at Tee-Lee's
earned them a bag of peanuts and a coke. As they improved, each member earned $5.00 each, which Steve spent
on a hamburger steak at Robies. His next band was called, "The Unusuals". Through the years, between the two
groups, they played for numerous teen dances throughout Terrebonne and LaFourche parishes as far as Grand Isle.
In 10" grade, Steve joined the school band. It was then that he realized he was gifted to play by ear and never did
learn to read music. At the age of 17, he joined a group called, "Gerald Babin & The Rhythm Kings" playing with them
for 4 years. He then put his own band together called "Versitle", which lasted a few years. Steve then teamed up with
his brother Ronnie and formed, "The Folse Brothers". They stayed together about 14 years until Ronnie moved to
Tennessee. At that point, Steve put together another band called, "South Folse" which existed between 12-15 years.
Steve was in his early 20's when he became the engineer for Pott's Recording Studio in Raceland, which produced
local artists such as Tommy Warren, L.J. Foret, Vin Bruce and Gene Rodrigue. He's played with numerous bands
and musicians and played many places as, The Gumbo Festival, American Legion and FW Halls, The Moulin Rouge,
The Villa, The Four Columns, The Green Door and many more.
In 1982, Steve was the musical sound technician for the band, "Country Sunshine" which consisted of his brothers
and sisters. The band made it to the top ten at a "Battle of the Bands" in Nashville and got to play at the Grand Ole
Opry.
More recently for the past 6 years plus, Steve has been playing with,
"The
Hurricane Levee Band", which began as a sit-in job. Not having to play every single weekend, left time for Steve to
enjoy his second love which was riding his motorcycle.
The band recently opened up for The Island Aid Concert in Grand Isle, that replaced the Tarpon Rodeo, due to the oil
spill. They've played events at the Governor's Mansion, The Baton Rouge Museum, Voice of the Wetlands, The
Wildlife Nature Center and various other organizations and festivals.
Steve has also sang with his brothers and sisters in the choir at St. Mary's
Church in Raceland, directed by his brother Ricky.
Steve has been Special Project Co-ordinator with the LaFourche Parish
Government in Raceland for the past 26 plus years. And of course, playing drums and singing for the past 30 years.
Steve still lives in Raceland with his wife of 26 years the former Peggy Sevin. The couple raised 5 children, Armand,
Jarrod Mickey, Jessica and Jamie and have 11 beautiful grandchildren
